The Criss Cross Newsboy Hat is the third pattern using this particular Criss Cross Stitch. You can see the Criss Cross Wide Headband and Criss Cross Fingerless Gloves if you’d like coordinating pieces!
I love the woven look of this stitch and as long as you can master a post stitch, you should be able to complete it with good success. I also have a photo tutorial you may find useful HERE.
The criss cross stitch can be a little difficult to work at first, but the beautiful texture it creates is so worth it and with a little practice, I’m confident you will get it in no time!
Sizes: Newborn, 0-3 Months, 3-6 Months, 6-12 Months, Toddler, Child, Adult Small, Adult

Finishing – All Sizes
Final Round of SC: Sl st in the same space as the last st of Row 3, sc in the end of the next two rows and continue working around the hat making 1 sc in each st. When you get back to the visor, make 1 sc in the end of each row and in each hdc across the front of the visor back to where you started. Join in first st and fasten off.
When numbers are in [ ], they represent the corresponding number to the size.
Button Band: Ch [23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37] make 3 hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in each ch to the end, make 5 hdc in the last ch – working the opposite side of the ch – hdc in each ch across, make 2 hdc in the last ch (same space as the first 3 hdc), join in first st and fasten off, leaving a lengthy tail. Use the tail to sew the band on above the visor. Attach a button to each end of the band.
