I love hats, but unfortunately I don’t look very good in them, but, I have found that a well placed headband can keep my ears warm and look pretty good too! This Criss Cross Headband is a great accessory as the weather starts to cool off.
I worked this headband in a worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart With Love) but really you could make it in other weights too, just be sure to adjust the hook size and you will likely have to adjust the starting chain too based on your yarn weight. I’m a big fan of crossed stitches such as Celtic Weave and this follows the same principle but with only one crossed stitch instead of two or more.
The Criss Cross Headband works up very quickly, sized for everyone from Toddlers to Adults and is unisex, so they make great last minute gifts or craft fair items too. Have fun working them in lots of different colors for every outfit!
Skill Level: Intermediate
Sizes: Toddler, Child, Teen/Adult Small, Adult Medium & Adult Large
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn; I have used Red Heart With Love in Lettuce
- Hook Clover Amour H/5.00 mm
- Tapestry/yarn needle

Abbreviations (US Terms):
- ch = chain
- FPdc = front post double crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Notes:
- You may find the Basket Weave (Criss Cross) Photo Tutorial Helpful.
- The beginning chain of each round does not count as a stitch.
- Each round is started in the same stitch as your beginning chain.
- The end of each round is joined by slip stitching in the first stitch of the round, not the beginning chain.
- Stitch counts are in ( ) at the end of the round.
You may find it helpful to review my tutorial on the Celtic Weave stitch. The concept apply to the stitch sequence used in this pattern.
