The Santa Wall Hanging is the perfect way to adorn your door, or a wall. Really it can be hung in so many different ways and it’s so cute! Imagine it over a fireplace with stockings hanging from the mantle, or in a window, or….. use your imagination!
Thank you to Yarnspirations for providing the yarn for this sample Santa Wall Hanging. I used Red Heart Super Saver in 4 colors. You could use a heavier yarn but of course that would change the finished size a little.
The Santa Wall Hanging is worked in two pieces. Start with the chimney, then work the pants, cuffs and boots, stuff them light for a 3D effect (optional) and then join the pants to the chimney. Add a hanger and you are all set!

Snow/Icicles – work in white:
The icicles are totally customizable! They are a series of chains with sc, hdc and dc worked in them. The more chains you start with the longer the snow icicles will be, mine ranged between 5 chains and 11 chains. Feel free to alternate them as you like.
Process:

- Ch7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch, hdc 3, dc in each ch to end, DO NOT TURN;
- Ch5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch, hdc to end, DO NOT TURN;
- Repeat instructions above until the icicles are long enough to go across chimney. Ch1, working along top of icicles, sc 41 evenly across. Turn icicles so the wrong side is facing you, place across top of chimney front, match stitches and work sc through both thicknesses to join. Fasten off.

Row 8: Ch1, turn, skip first st, sc 10, skip next st, sc in last st. Fasten off. (11)
Boots – work in black:
Because the two legs are not symmetrical, it is important to mark the outside of the pants for both the back and the front as mentioned earlier. One boot is started from the outside of the pants and the other is started from the inside. To determine right and left side of boots, lay the pants down with outside facing you and legs facing up, the leg on your right is the “right side”, the one on your left is the “left side”. This will be a different leg for front and back, so just take them one at a time.
Boot for “right side”:
Row 1: Working from outside of leg, skip first st of cuff, join in next st, ch1, sc 9. (9)
Rows 2 & 3: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end. (9)
Row 4: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end, ch5. (9 sc + 5 chs)
Row 5: Turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 chs, sc in each st to end. (13)
Row 6: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end, ch5. (13 sc + 5 chs)
Row 7: Turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 chs, sc in each st to end. (17)
Rows 8 to 11: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end. (17)
Row 12: Ch1, turn, sc 15, skip next st, sc in last st. (16)
Row 13: Ch1, turn, skip 1 st, sc in each st to end. (15)
Row 14: Ch1, turn, sc 13, skip next st, sc in last st. (14)
Row 15: Ch1, turn, skip 1 st, sc in each st to end. (13)
Row 16: Ch1, turn, sc 7, leave remaining sts unworked. (7)
Row 17: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end. Fasten off. (7)
Boot for “left side”:
Row 1: Working from inside of leg, skip first st of cuff, join in next st, ch1, sc 9. (9)
Rows 2 to 17: Repeat as for Boot Leg 1.
Finishing:
Joining Front and Back: With inside of pants touching, match legs and line up stitches along the sides and bottom. Join Red yarn at the top corner of pants and working through both thicknesses, sc in each st all around to join, changing working color to match the section you are working (red for pants, white for cuff and black for boot).
Lightly stuff the body then whip stitch the top of the pants closed.
Insert the pants into the chimney and sew chimney to pants.
Add a hanging cord to the feet and hang on your door or wall!

Hello, I’m doing the hanging Santa and I’m stuck on the chimney (front side) piece Row 8 the LFPST then sl st the remaining but it looks odd. Should I fasten off after the LFPST?
No there is no fasten off. It should look like a long stitch followed by a bunch of short ones.
Hi Maria,
I’m doing your pattern, Santa wall Hanging, but have stumbled across a problem. On row 34 of the second leg, I keep getting a count of 11 stitches instead of 10. I have taken it out and redone it many times and still get this number. Any chance you could shed some light on this issue please?
There are three decreases in that row, the sl st at the beginning, then the skipped st after you ch1 and finally leaving the last st unworked. I’ve bolded the three stitches below – hope that helps
Row 34: Ch1, turn, sl st in first st (does not count as st), ch1, skip 1 st, sc 10, leave last st unworked. (10)
