Do you love the social aspects of a crochet along (CAL)? Do you want to crochet a shawl but are somewhat intimidated to give it a try? Do you like to learn new stitch combinations and techniques? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this CAL is for you!
Read the CAL details below and join me in the Pattern Paradise Crochet Community Facebook group for some CAL Fun!!
About the Spring Showers Shawl….
This is a FREE CAL and the pattern will be released on my website over a three week period (see schedule below). Can’t wait three weeks to complete it? No problem, I’ll also have an ad-free PDF available in my Ravelry shop for a small fee. The PDF also includes crochet charts for those who prefer them to the written instructions.
First, I want to tell you about the yarn! I’m so excited to share with you, that I designed this shawl with a yarn that was custom dyed for Pattern Paradise by KT & The Squid. The yarn is called KT and the Squid Everyday DK Superwash Merino. It is a 100% superwash merino wool that comes in 100 gram balls (approximately 246 yards/224 meters).Â
If you’ve never worked with merino, you are in for a treat. This luxurious yarn is soft, has a beautiful sheen and glides pleasantly through your hands as you work. After Katy and I talked about my favorite colors and the concept of an ombre look, she created the Spring Showers Collection in both a grey and purple set. Each set contains 3 balls of yarn, 1 dark, 1 medium and 1 lighter shade of either the grey or purple. The grey has little specks of yellow and blue that add a spark of brightness too! You’ll need one set for the shawl. For my shawl, I used up almost all of the light color and had a little left over from the other two – maybe enough for a headband?
While supplies last, Katy will have both colorways available for my CAL!
Now about the design – I love to vary stitches and textures as well as lacy and closed work in my projects. I also love to add interesting edgings and borders. The Spring Showers Shawl has all of these elements. In fact, this shawl starts out with a circular motif that turns into the typical shawl triangle. I added rows of openwork flanked by lacy scallops and finally, a deep pointed edge as the final border. While it may look intricate and complicated, it is a collection of basic crochet stitches.
The shawl has an approximate wingspan of 54″ and about 26″ from top to point. It may be worn in many different ways – wrapped around the shoulders with the point in back, tied at the back of the neck with the point in front, tied at the neck side for an asymmetric look. You can also close it with a shawl pin (I have a surprise treat for you) or see my easy tutorial HERE for a removable button toggle.

its vibrant colors. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us.
Keep Going.
You are welcome.
It’s a gorgeous shawl, but I think it would really pop some of the details if this was in actual spring colors. More vibrant colors.
Has anyone tried it in brighter colors?
Again, it’s a very lovely shawl. I’m going to have to try the pattern.
Thank you.
I look forward to seeing your color choices!

I could email you the pattern but without the Adobe software you will not be able to open the PDF file. It isn’t about the download, it’s about reading the file. You can get a free copy of the Adobe software at Adobe.com
This is an absolutely beautiful shawl. I made one for a friend and am now making my second one for my son-in-laws mother. My question is to see if there is any way to make this shawl longer? Your answer will be very helpful. Thank you for offering this pattern and for your beautiful design. I am in awe of people who are able to create such beautiful masterpieces and then are so generous as to share them with us. Have a blessed day!
Thank you! I have not tried it but some folks have told me they made it larger by adding repeats of Rows 20 – 30. I’m glad you like the pattern 🙂
