Recently, I was playing around with some stitch combinations looking for an easy repeat that would generate great texture. I tried all kinds of fancy stitch sequences, but in the end, I loved this very simple one row repeat!
This stitch sequence creates a beautiful texture that is reversible (looks the same on both sides) so it’s perfect for scarves, blankets or any project where you don’t want to see a “wrong” side. It’s a super easy combination so it’s a wonderful pattern to use when you are looking for something that you can do while watching TV or watching a movie. I used this stitch on my Ibiza Cowl and look forward to designing more projects with it too!
Key points to remember with this stitch pattern:
- Keep the stitches loose, you may want to use a hook one size larger than normally recommended for your yarn weight.
- Start with an odd number of chains.
- Work a single crochet in the first and last stitch of each row.
- Turn at the end of each row and repeat the stitch sequence until you have reached your desired length.
The stitch repeat is:
Skip one stitch, half double crochet in the next stitch. Working around the stitch just created, single crochet in the skipped stitch. Be sure to pull the single crochet up a little so that it doesn’t tug on the half double crochet too much. That’s it!Â
Since a visual is often the best way to learn, I have a video tutorial to help you. You can find it on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/-EiL1KGwwR0, or click on it below.
