Winter Indulgence Wrap
Well we are in deep cold weather here in the northeast where I live, but I’m not letting that get me down! I designed the Winter Indulgence Wrap as a luxurious treat to brighten up those winter outfits.
I sometimes find that working on a wrap, throw or other large project can get a little boring, but not this one! This design is worked in rows of different stitch combinations to create various types of textures and lace. I love how the stitching plays with the color changes too. Then I added a border worked in rounds on the base and finally an edging is worked on the short ends – it’s one little twist after another to keep you interested and layer the beauty!
I used one of my favorite yarns for this one – Red Heart It’s A Wrap Rainbow, in the color Whisper and I’m in love with the greens, lavender, ivory and grey’s that flow gently from this yarn!
I used two balls for this wrap and ended up with a generous 68″ x 22″ finished size, but it’s so easy to adjust this one, you can really make it any size you like. I’ve even had thoughts of making it wider in a thicker yarn as a throw — how elegant!
Like so many of my wraps, this one may be worn in various configuration (don’t you just love versatility?) and I can see it as fashion piece over a dress, blouse or sweater or for a bit of extra warmth over a pretty dress on date night!

Gauge: 8 Shells x 11.5 rows = 5”
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch: chain
dc: double crochet
hdc: half double crochet
sc: single crochet
sl: slip
st(s): stitch(es)
tog: together
YO: Yarn over
Special Stitches:
CL = Worked in the same stitch: *YO, insert hook in designated stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through two loops* (two loops on hook), repeat between *, (three loops on hook), YO and pull through all three loops. This is similar to making a dc2tog in the same stitch.
Shell = [CL, ch2, CL] in same stitch
Notes:
- Weave ends as you work.
- Beginning ch1 does NOT count as a stitch.
- Chains within a row DO count as a stitch.
- Number in ( ) at end of round indicates the number of stitches in that round.
- Repeat instructions between [ ] and * as a set as indicated.
The wrap is first worked in rows and then the border is added in rounds, with the final edging added in rows to the two short ends only. Pay close attention to notes and guidance provided in the Finishing section.
Wrap
The overall stitch multiple is 30 +1 which is how you would adjust Row 1 for different sizing, however, I’ve also provided the stitch multiple for each section.
Section 1 – stitch multiple = 3 + 1

Rows 3 to 8: Ch3, turn, dc in next st, Shell in each ch2 space (center of Shell from previous row) dc in last 2 dc. (99 Shells, 4 dc)
Section 2 – stitch multiple = 2 + 1

Finishing
To finish the wrap, you will work a Border in rounds around the entire perimeter of the wrap and then an edging on each short end. Join all rounds with a slip stitch to the first stitch of the round. Pay attention to the stitch multiple guidance and informational notes throughout.
Border
Round 1: For this round, you will work 3sc in each corner and then sc in each st or ch space so that your work lies flat and even. You must have a stitch multiple of 4 + 1 along each side (NOT INCLUDING the 3sc in the corner). Since the stitch count is important for the short ends in order to add the edging, I will provide my stitch count for the short sides only. Starting in corner, ch1, *3sc in corner st (the middle one is considered the actual corner for the next round), working evenly sc in each st and ch space to next corner, so that work lies flat and doesn’t pucker or bubble*, repeat between * to end, join. (73 sc along each short side NOT INCLUDING the 3sc in each corner)
Round 2: This round has a stitch multiple of 4 + 3 along each side (NOT INCLUDING the 3dc in the corner). Sl st into corner stitch, ch2 (does not count as a stitch), *3dc in corner, dc in each st to next corner*, repeat between * to end, join. (75 dc along each short side not including the 3dc in each corner)
Round 3: Sl st into corner stitch, ch5 (counts as dc + ch2) dc in same st (corner made), [ch1, skip 1, dc in next st] until one st remains before corner, ch1, skip 1, *[dc, ch2, dc] in corner, [ch1, skip 1, dc in next st] until one st remains before corner, ch1, skip 1*, repeat between * to end, join in 3rd ch of beginning ch5. (38 dc along each short side NOT INCLUDING the two worked into the corner)
Round 4: Sl st into corner ch space, ch3 (counts as dc throughout), [dc, ch2, 2dc] in same corner space, dc in each dc and ch1 space to next corner, *[2dc, ch2, 2dc] in corner space, dc in each dc and ch1 space to next corner*, repeat between * end, join. (83 dc along each short end INCLUDING the ones in the corner ch spaces)
Round 5: Sl st next st and into corner ch space, ch1, *3sc in corner ch space, sc in each st to end*, repeat between * to end, join. Fasten off. (87 sc along each short end INCLUDING 2 of the sc in each corner)
Edge on Short End
You will now be working along the short ends ONLY. You will start in the middle sc that is the “corner” of the previous round and work across the sc of the short end to the next “corner” and then turn and work the remainder of the edge in rows. The stitch count from corner sc to corner sc must be a multiple of 4 + 3, I have 87 in my sample.
Row 1: Join in “corner” sc to work along one short end, ch3, dc in next st, *skip 3, [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in next st*, repeat between * until 5 sts remain, skip 3, dc in last 2 sts. (84 dc + 20 ch2 spaces)
Rows 2 & 3: Ch3, turn, dc in next dc, [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in each ch2 space, dc in last 2 dc. (84 dc + 20 ch2 spaces)
Row 4: Ch3, turn, dc in next dc, *sc in space before next 2dc (this isn’t a stitch or real space, it is simply the connection between groups of double crochets), [dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc] in ch2 space*, repeat between * to last ch2 space, sc in space between next 2dc and last 2 dc, dc in last 2 dc.
Row 5: Ch1, turn, sc in first 2 dc, *skip next sc, sc in next dc, sc in ch1 space, [hdc, ch2, hdc] in next dc, sc in ch1 space, sc in next dc*, repeat between * until 3 sts remain, skip next sc, sc in last 2 dc. Fasten off.
Repeat Finishing instructions for second short side.
