X Marks the Spot Cardi
Enjoy this month’s X Stitch Challenge crochet pattern
Summertime is quickly approaching but spring can still be cool. This month’s X Stitch Challenge crochet pattern is the perfect accessory for those chilly days. I designed this pattern using the modified X stitch but you can use the traditional one if you prefer. I made this cardi in I Love This Cotton with a shimmer and I love the finished look. The cardi closes at the bodice with a set of button taps arranged to form an “X” (like that twist on the X Stitch theme?).

This cardi pattern is sized in 6-12 months but I’m sure you can adjust it easily if you need a little smaller or larger — simply adjusting the number of repeats in the bodice. The cardi works up super quick and the color possibilities are endless.
I hope you enjoy making this quick project and will share your finished pictures on my Facebook page and the SHOW IT OFF link party.

My count is not coming as given..first row is fine but from after completetion total is not coming to 69..how to calculate that?
Also, should we HDC in the Vst HDC as well?
The stitch count is calculated as follows:
Ch66, hdc in 3rd st from hook = this would give you a stitch count of 65 hdc
then you will work a hdc in each st except the 4 corners, where there are 2 hdc in each = increase of 4 hdc
65 + 4 = 69
Hope that helps.
Hi I am also not. Able to see the stitch count for each row 3-9 it would help me a lot if u could email it or add it?
[email protected]
It’s an increase of 8 stitches for each row:
Row 3: 85
Row 4: 93
Row 5: 101
Row 6: 109
Row 7: 117
Row 8: 125
Row 9: 133
Hi, i might just being a little thick but i cant see the tutorial for the special stitch, ive not done that stitch before so would like to know how its done, thank you 🙂
Here’s the link Lisa, hopefully this helps.https://pattern-paradise.com/2015/01/14/x-stitch-challenge-basic-tutorial/
thank you 🙂 love this pattern x
Hi, I try to make this lovely cardigan for a few days, I’ve done and re-done the body part about five times now and I can never get to the correct number of stitches. After row 9 I end up with an number of stitches which is never 133 and their not divided how they’re supposed to.
Any chance you can note how many stitches are supposed to be in each section? or put a tutorial where you explain where exactly you put the chain space, specially in the pilling rows?.
Thank you so much!!
I love the design but I was to frustrated to try again.
I’m sorry you are having trouble Mayra. I’ve gone back and added section counts for each of the rows in the top section, I hope this will help you to validate stitch count.
Awesome, I will try with this information!! Thank you so much.
For the life of me I cannot see this info! Help please.
I’m not following. What information can’t you see?
I’m not seeing where you added the amount of stitches for rows 3-9. I’m having the same problem as Mayra. Love the pattern and am wanting to complete it.
I have a question regarding row two of the body, shouldn’t I repeat between the * three more time instead of two more times?
Thank you for bringing the error to my attention. I’ve corrected the post.
You’re welcome. Now I’ll restart the project 🙂
I am interested in doing this beautiful pattern but for a size 0-3 months and in a thread instead of yarn, but have no clue to how many stitches to start with and where to put the ch1 space or spaces. How many repeats would I use. I could use your help. It is a lovely pattern. Thank you
Thank you for your nice comments. I’m sorry, I haven’t worked out the pattern in any other combination. I may do so in future and the paid pattern would include a range of sizing, but I don’t have it now. 🙁
Muchas gracias por el patrón tan bien explicado. Hice mi primer cardigan gracias a esta publicación y quedó hermoso.
De nada!
