Fancy Flower Applique
I know, I know, you already have a ton of flower patterns, but who doesn’t like another stash busting, free crochet pattern? This big flower applique can be added to almost anything or stand on its own. I’ve even thought of joining them and making a pillow or afghan. However you decide to integrate this bloom, it’s easy, quick and fun.

Fancy Flower
Materials:
- I used Worsted Weight Yarn but you can use any yarn for this pattern
- I used 5 colors but you can use as many or few as you like ~ 25 yards of yarn in total
Gauge:
Gauge is not important for this project, just use a hook that is appropriate for your yarn.
Size: Approximately 4” diameter, but size will vary based on yarn used.
Abbreviations:
Beg – beginning
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Sc – Single Crochet
Sl st – Slip Stitch
St(s) – Stitch(es)
YO – yarn over
Special Stitch:
CL: [YO, insert hook in stitch, YO, pull loop through to height of a dc, YO pull through 2 loops]; repeat between [ ] three more times; YO pull through all five loops on hook.
• Weave ends as you work
• Chain 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch
• Numbers in ( ) at end of the round represent number of stitches in that round
• Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch
• Fasten off at each color change
Top Layer:
Round 1: With Color 1, start with a Magic Circle, ch1, [sc, ch2] 6 times, join. Pull loose tail tight to close center opening. (6 sc, 12 chains)
Round 2: Join Color 2 in any ch2 space, ch1, [2sc in ch2 space, ch1], repeat to end, join. (12 sc, 6 chains)
Round 3: Turn to work from back, join Color 3 in any sc directly to the right of a ch1 space, ch1, sc in same st, [CL in ch1 space, sc in next 2 sc], 5 times, [CL in ch1 space, sc in next sc], join. (6 Clusters, 12 sc)
Round 4: Turn to work from front, join Color 4 in top of any CL stitch, ch1, sc in same st, [sl st in next st, ch6, sl st in next st, sc in top of next CL stitch], repeat to end, joining to beg sc in last repeat. (6 rounded petals)
Round 5: Work *[sc, 4dc, ch2, sl st in first ch, 4dc, sc] all in next ch6 space, sl st in next st, skip next st*, repeat between * to end, join. Fasten off.
If you want, you can actually end here and use the flower as is, but if you want it larger and bolder, add the Bottom Layer as indicated below.
Bottom Layer:
Round 1: With Color 5, start with a Magic Circle, ch1, 12hdc in center, join. Pull loose tail tight to close center opening. (12)
Round 2: Ch1, 2hdc in each st, join. (24)
Round 3: [ch8, sl st in same st, sc in next 3 sts, sl st in next st], repeat to end, join.
Round 4: Work *[sc, 5dc, ch2, sl st in first ch, 5dc, sc] all in next ch8 space*, repeat between * to end, join. Fasten off.
Assembly:
With right sides facing up, place top layer over bottom layer offsetting petals. Sew layers together to join.
