Dragonfly Chevron Baby Blanket
I can’t seem to get enough of these adorable little dragonflies! This blanket features the little critters in a sweet chevron design. I worked it in 4 colors but really it would look great with any number of colors or even in one solid color to show off the texture.
I usually work baby blankets in a light worsted, such as Red Heart Soft, but for this one I wanted to try something a little finer and found that this DK weight worked out well. If you prefer to use a light worsted, your finished blanket will be slightly bigger (closer to 36″ x 42″ with a 32 stitch to the inch gauge). The blanket is also easy to size, simply increase or decrease the beginning chain count by increments of 36 for each chevron repeat.

Border:
Round 1: Work a round of sc all around the blanket edge, being sure to have 3sc in each corner. To keep the sides flat, I generally work 2sc in side of each row side, but you may have to adjust to keep your work from buckling, just be sure that you have the same number of sts on top and bottom of blanket and on the left and right side. Join with sl st to first st.
Round 2: Ch2, work a round of hdc all around the blanket edge being sure to work 3hdc in each corner, join with sl st to first st.
Round 3: Join Color 4 in any corner, ch1, Shell in same st, skip 2, [Shell in next st, skip 2], repeat around to end, join with sl st to first st. You may have to adjust the skipped sts at the corners so that there is a Shell in each corner.

Why don’t you do a tutorial on this chevron dragonfly baby blanket it would be so much appreciated by your followers and I as your new follower, love your work and want to do this blanket, but I enjoy tutorials so much more easier to follow.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, I do plan on adding tutorials for several of my patterns, unfortunately, there are only so many hours in a day! They are on the to-do list and I’ll continue to work away at it a little at a time. In the meantime, enjoy the free pattern 🙂

I am having trouble with row 7. I end up with an extra stitch at the end. I have redone it several times but can’t get it figured out.
PatternParadise says
I’m sorry, it’s difficult for me to assist without seeing your work. If you are still having trouble, please send me a photo and email me at [email protected]
CRISS says
I am confused on the beginng dc. My count is way off however the stiches come out fine at the end of the row. You count the beginning chain two as 1 then skip the first stich pick up the next stich with a dc. Is that correct? If so my edges are not straight.
PatternParadise says
I’m not following your question. Which row(s) are you referring to?
Robyn says
Hi, if I wanted to make this wider, what is the first chain in multiples of?
Can’t wait to give this a go.
PatternParadise says
As noted in the pattern post 😉
“The blanket is also easy to size, simply increase or decrease the beginning chain count by increments of 36 for each chevron repeat.”

I’m having problems on the last five rows before the border.
PatternParadise says
I’m sorry to hear that. I’d like to try and help you, what problems are you having?
Lisa Gill says
Hi, I would like to make this blanket with worsted weight yarn, aran, on a 5mm hook. How much yarnage will I need? What size will it work out as? I was aiming for 36 Inches.
Regarding dragonfly Chevron Blanket.
PatternParadise says
I’m sorry but I haven’t tested it in another weight. I would make a test swatch in the yarn you are planning on using and see how that compares to the pattern. That will give you an idea of how big the finished blanket will be, then by tracking the amount used in your swatch you can estimate yardage too.
Hope that helps.
Erin says
I am just about finished with this blanket. I used a thicker yarn and larger hook so I followed the instructions to decrease the size. Thank you for providing the number for stitch count, that is missing in so many patterns. It has worked up beautifully and I’m having no trouble following your pattern.
PatternParadise says
Well thank you so much! It’s nice to hear and I’m glad you are enjoying the blanket 🙂
Lisa says
When I get to the end of row 6, my count is all off. I have done it over several times but comes out the same every time.
PatternParadise says
I’m so sorry you are having trouble. The pattern has been tested and reviewed several times so I believe the counts are correct. If you’d like to email me with a photo of your work (close up) I can try and help you decipher the issue.

Re: Dragonfly chevron baby blanket. Hi, I am trying to determine the part of your instructions that say “repeat **” . The first time the** is shown is at “join color 2” and then the next time it is seen is at “Join Color 4, Repeat Rows 6 to 10**”.
further down, the instructions are “Repeat between ** ” several times – Does this mean to repeat Rows 6 to 10, or everything from after joining color 2 to joining color 4?
PatternParadise says
The repeats between are for the designated rows only. The repeat between the red ** are for the entire section from the first appearance of the ** to the last.

The beg dc doesn’t seem clear to me at all. Am I supposed to be working that first dc on the side I just finished up on, before turning? I tried it a number of ways and am still stumped.
Also, as the pattern is written, it works up in a lovely wave/ripple effect but it doesn’t seem to be a drastic chevron like your pictures suggest. My “valleys” do not have a distinct vertical line that appears as in your picture as the blanket is worked up a ways. Just curious. It all works out beautifully even as a wave/ripple but I’m curious to know if your sample pic was exactly as written or perhaps a variation?
PatternParadise says
The instructions for the Beg Dc state that you “Ch 2, turn, skip first st, dc in next st (counts as dc2tog)”; this means that you turn before you work the stitch. Regarding the distinct chevron point, yes, the sample shown is worked up exactly as written. Perhaps check to make sure you are making the peaks and valleys in the correct stitch and of course, blocking does help.

I am having a hard time with the Beg dc. Not following real well sorry. Also like the dc3tog. May just be having a blonde moment. Lol
PatternParadise says
I’m sorry you are having trouble. The Beg dc is like working two stitches together into 1, it’s a way of keeping the smooth even edge. The dc3tog is like working a dc half way three times, then pulling through all the loops on the hook at once to make 3 stitches count as 1. Hope that helps.
