Diamonds & Gems Cowl
This cowl is a fun interplay of color and stitches. Together, they form a pattern that reminds me of gems. It’s kind of like a necklace made of yarn!
I used worsted yarn but you could use other weights too, just be sure to adjust your hook accordingly and of course, the size will change too. It’s a great for using up leftover skeins of yarn too!

I made the cowl on the longer end so it can be work in different configurations, I like it draped because I don’t like things tight around my neck, but it can be twisted in front or wrapped around the neck a couple of times for a different look. Have fun!

Instructions!
Size: One size; Approximately 7” x 32”
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn, I used Red Heart Soft: Main Color (Toast) ~ 150 yards; Color 2 (Off White) & Color 3 (Seafoam) ~ 100 yards of each
- Hook USI/5.50 mm
- Yarn needle for weaving ends

Gauge: 10 dc; 4 rows = 3”
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st(s) – slip stitch(es)
st(s) – stitch(es)
Special Stitch: Cluster – 2 dc in same stitch or space
Notes:
- Weave ends as you work
- Beginning ch1 does not count as stitch
- Number in ( ) at end of round indicates the number of stitches in that round
- Work instructions in [ ] or between *, the designated number of times
- Join Rounds with slip stitch to beginning stitch
- You can fasten off at each color change or carry the unused yarn along the inside to minimize weaving ends
Cowl
Round 1: With Main Color, ch 108, join with sl st to first ch to form a circle, being carful not to twist chain. Ch 1 working in the back bump, sc in 2nd st from hook and each remaining st, join. (108)
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in same st, skip 1, [Cluster, skip 1] around, join, sl st into next space between Clusters.
From here forward the stitches are worked in the space between each Cluster from the previous round, NOT in the stitches.
Round 3: Join New Color, ch3, dc in same space, work Cluster around, join, sl st into next space between Clusters.
Round 4: Join Main Color, ch3, dc in same space, work Cluster around, join, sl st into next space between Clusters.
Rounds 5 to 12: Repeat Round 3 and 4, keeping in color sequence. Do not fasten off.
Border
Round 1: With Main Color, ch 1, working in back loop only, sc in each st around, join.
Round 2: Repeat Round 1. Fasten off.
Working on opposite side, join Main Color, Repeat Round 1 three times. Fasten off after last repeat.
