Welcome to Week 5!
This week we will be working the elegant Noel Tree Skirt. This skirt is worked in flat rows from the center out and the stitches create a radiating flower like design that reminds me of a poinsettia.
I wanted to make an easy tree skirt in a non-traditional color combination and in a yarn that would do the work for me. I chose this Red Heart With Love self striping yarn in the colorway Fiji. I like the interplay of the blues and greens and I think it makes for an interesting piece.
Then I wondered, how this design would look in a more traditional color scheme, like red and white. I decided to try it in Red Heart Super Saver. I have to admit, the two tree skirts look completely different from each other and I love them both! I plan to use the traditional one under my big tree that I decorate with whites, reds, greens, and golds and the non-traditional one on a wire framed, more contemporary tree that I use for crystal ornaments.
I don’t like large tree skirts, basically I just want my skirt to cover the base that holds up the tree, so I made this one about 39″ in diameter; however, I do provide instructions to increase it to 48″ in diameter. If you want something even bigger, simply continue to work rows with increases until the diameter is as large as you desire. Add the scalloped edge and that’s it!
I left a large slit opening to make it easy to get around the tree base, however, you could add long chain ties to tie it closed.

I was looking for the information on how to make bigger I’m lost
PatternParadise says
If you look at the instructions for the bigger skirt (48″) you can just continue the increase sequence following the same pattern and increasing one stitch for each row.
Michelle Quehl says
It was in her little write up at page top
so I made this one about 39″ in diameter; however, I do provide instructions to increase it to 48″ in diameter. If you want something even bigger, simply continue to work rows with increases until the diameter is as large as you desire. Add the scalloped edge and that’s it!
Its important to read a whole page instead of just a pattern. This was important information you glazed over
Ruth says
Is there a way to decrease this to make a skirt for a 3ft table top tree? I just realized that this one is fairly large for a floor tree. Thank you
PatternParadise says
There really isn’t any way to decrease the size without effecting the design, unless you try a smaller yarn and/or hook; however, 39″ could work for a table top tree too. I would pull it up tighter at the top and I think it would look great!
Michelle Quehl says
I used size 3 yarn and a 4.5mm hook it worked for my mini table tree
Ruth says
This is beautiful!!! Thank you so much. I don’t know if I’ll every get time to make it…I have a long list…but I’m adding this to my list to make for myself if I ever do find time.
PatternParadise says
Thank you. It goes pretty quickly in the worsted yarn.
