Pin It To Save It For Later!
I often work blankets in stripes and while I love the look, I don’t always enjoy the joins! I find that the traditional method of joining a new color (simply starting the new color in the last pass of the last stitch) does not always result in a neat, tight join. Even if you add a border and crochet over the joins, they tend to be loose and not very secure.
The trick I’m sharing today, is one that I’ve developed to avoid this problem. It’s an easy variation that I find to be much more secure. Here’s how I do it: When joining a new color, in addition to pulling the new color through the last pass of the last stitch, I actually pull BOTH colors through, chain 1 with the new color, then pull both tails tightly to finish the stitch. By doing this, your new color is ready to crochet with and the old color is tightly tucked into the base of the join. Give it a try, I’d love to hear if you like it too!
