This week’s free crochet pattern is for the
Glamour Clutch

Size:Approximately 8” x 5”
Materials:
- Red Heart Gleam worsted weight yarn; 169 yards per skein
- Color 1 – Toasty; 1 skein
- Color 2 – Creamy; 1 skein
- 1” Button – 1
- Hook US H/5.00 mm
- Susan Bates Yarn Needle
- Stitch Markers
Gauge: 18 sc x 20 Rows = 4”
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
Shell = (dc, ch2, dc, ch2, dc) in same stitch
VSt = (dc, ch2, dc) in same stitch
Notes:
- Pattern is written in US standard terms
- Weave ends as you work.
- Stitch count is in ( ) at end of the Round.
- Repeat instructions in [ ] or * as noted.
- Ch1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch
- Ch1 within row does count as stitch.
- Start each row in the same stitch as the beginning ch1.
Pattern Instructions
Base
Round 1: With Color 1, ch37, 3sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc next 34 ch, 3sc in last ch; working around other side of beginning ch, sc in each st to end, join with sl st to first st. (74 here and throughout)
Round 2: Ch1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around, join with sl st to first st.
From here forward work in spiral (do not join), you may want to place a st marker in the first st of each round to keep track.
Round 3: Ch1, sc in each st around. (74)
Rounds 4 to 25: Repeat Round 3. Piece measures approx. 5” from Row 2. Fasten off.
Lay piece flat and mark top right side; mark 37th st to the left of first mark.
Flap
Row 1: Join Color 2 in Stitch Marker #1, ch1, sc in first st, skip 2, [Shell in next st, skip 2, sc in next st] 6 times – you should end at Stitch Marker #2. (6 Shells)
Row 2: Ch5 (counts as dc + ch2), turn, dc in same st, skip next dc, [sc in top of next dc, skip next dc, VSt in next sc] 6 times.
Row 3: Ch1, turn, sc in same st, [Shell in next sc, sc in center of next VSt] 5 times, Shell in next sc, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch 5. (6 Shells)
Row 4: Repeat Row 2
Row 5: Repeat Row 3
Row 6: Turn, sl st to center dc of first Shell, ch1, sc in same st, [VSt in next sc, skip next dc, sc in top of next dc] 5 times.
Row 7: Turn, sl st to center of first VSt, ch1, sc in same st, [Shell in next sc, sc in center of next VSt] 4 times.
Row 8: Turn, sl st to center dc of first Shell, ch1, sc in same st, [VSt in next sc, skip next dc, sc in top of next dc] 3 times.
Row 9: Turn, sl st to center of first VSt, sc in same st, [Shell in next sc, sc in center of next VSt] 2 times. Fasten off.
Flap Border Row 1: Working from inside of flap, join Color 2 where flap joins base, ch1, work 5 sc evenly to first point, 3sc in point, 13 sc evenly up side to center dc of first Shell in Row 9, ch5, sc in center dc of next Shell, 12 sc evenly down side to next point, 3sc in point, 5 sc evenly to end of flap.
Flap Border Row 2: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to first point, 3sc in point, sc in each st to ch5, 6sc in ch5 space, sc in each st to next point, 3sc in point, sc to end of flap. Fasten off.
Flap Border Row 3: Working from outside of flap, join Color 1 at beginning of flap, sl st in each st to end. Fasten off.
Fold flap down, sew button in place.
Wrist Handle
With Color 1, ch50, working in lower loop of each ch, sl st to end. Fasten off leaving a long end. Use end to sew handle to clutch.
