Alpine Nights Scarf
Have you caught onto the Super Scarf craze yet? I love the way those big chunky oversized scarves look, but sometimes I feel they can be a bit overwhelming on some people. This pretty scarf is designed in two sizes, a 9″ x 85″ for those that want to dip their toe into the Super Scarf category without a full commitment and a more traditional 6″ x 60″.
Have fun with this one, it’s easy and works up quickly. The waffle stitch makes it thick and luxurious around the neck and it’s super “yarn versatile” too! I’ve made it in the Caron Cakes yarn that everyone is talking about as well as Rowan Hemp Tweed and Red Heart Soft, all with equally good results, so it just depends on the look you are going for. These make great holiday gifts too!

For the scarve you have:
Row 2: Ch2, turn, [dc next st, FPdc next 2 sts] repeat until there are 2 sts left, dc last 2 st. (213, 300)
Row 3: Ch2, turn, [FPdc next st, dc next 2 sts] repeat until there are 2 sts left, FPdc next st, dc last st. (213, 300)
But shouldn’t row 3 be Ch2, turn, DC, THEN the […]?
No, it’s correct as written.
I had a fun time making both the beanie and scarf for my daughter. With this scarf though, I came across a difference in stitch counts. It starts with chaining 214 then hdc 3rd chain from hook. This will give you 211 stitches rather than the 213 you have listed.
Thank you for your note. I have checked and the count is correct. When you make the first hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, that is ch #212, since the skipped chs count as a stitch, the total would be 213.
I plan on making the Alpine Nights Beanie for some children I know and would like to make them this scarf to match. I’m wondering if the smaller size would be too overwhelming for a child? If so, what size would you suggest? Thank you, and thanks for sharing your beautiful patterns.
I think the small should work for a child, but the pattern is easily adjusted to the size you would like, so perhaps you can trial one and then make the others accordingly.
