Size:
Toddler – Head Circumference = 18″ – 20″
Child – Head Circumference = 19″ – 21″
Adult Small – Head Circumference = 21″ – 22″
Adult Large – Head Circumference = 22″ – 23″
Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn
1″ Button – 1
Hook US H/5.00 mm
Gauge: 14 hdc x 11 rows = approximately 4”
Abbreviations (US Terms):
BLO = back loop only
ch(s) = chain(s)
FLO = front loop only
hdc = half double crochet
Rnd = Round
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
SC Spike Stitch: An elongated sc stitch worked over multiple rows or rounds.
Special Instructions:
- Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of the Row.
- Ch1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
Pattern Instructions
Instructions are written for smallest size, with changes for larger sizes in parentheses ( ).
Toddler (Child, Adult Small, Adult Large)
Rnd 1: Ch 57 (61, 65, 69), hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each ch to end, bring ends together and sl st to join in first hdc. 56 (60, 64, 68) sts
Rnd 2: Ch 1, hdc in BLO of first 25 (29, 33, 37) sts, sl st in both loops of next 5 sts, hdc in BLO of remaining sts, sl st to join in first hdc. 56 (60, 64, 68) sts
Rnd 3: Ch 1, hdc in FLO of first 26 (30, 34, 38) sts, in BLO sl st in next 5 sts, hdc in FLO of remaining sts, sl st to join in first hdc. 56 (60, 64, 68) sts
Rnd 4: Ch 1, hdc in BLO of first 25 (29, 33, 37) sts, sl st in BLO of next 5 sts, hdc in BLO of remaining sts, sl st to join in first hdc. 56 (60, 64, 68) sts
Rnd 5: Ch 1, hdc in FLO of first 26 (30, 34, 38) sts, in BLO sl st in next 5 sts, hdc in FLO of remaining sts, sl st to join in first hdc. 56 (60, 64, 68) sts
For a narrower headband, skip to Rnd 10.
Rnd 6 to Rnd 9: Repeat Rnd 4 and Rnd 5.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, hdc in BLO of first 25 (29, 33, 37) sts, sl st in BLO of next 2 sts, work a sc spike st around entire sl st section, sl st in BLO of next 2 sts, hdc in BLO of remaining sts, sl st to join in first hdc. 56 (60, 64, 68) sts
Fasten off and weave in ends.
