Charmed Cloche
This pretty cloche hat is perfect for a mother/daughter photo shoot or just to wear on a cool Spring day. The flower is purely optional, but adds a touch of whimsical flair. The stitch pattern is an easy repeat that adds a bit of texture in a soft way.Â
For a beanie look, you can eliminate the last two rounds of the hat and end it at the band.
And if you’d like a set, take a look at the fingerless gloves and cowl too!

hi!! I LOVE this pattern and have made two hats now and plan on making more. My only trouble is that the two hats turned out very different in size for some reason lol. The first one fits me PERFECTLY and the 2nd one is way big. Not sure how that happened but they’re BEAUTIFUL. This actually has happened to me often with various other hats… I think I must have a small head because I need the child size in many of them 🙂
Hi Amy, I’m sorry you are having trouble. Based on your note, I think you trouble is gauge!
Even the same crocheter, following the same pattern with the same hook, will get a different result if they use a different yarn. Sometimes, even using different colors of the same yarn, can pose a problem.
For best fit results, with any pattern, take the time to make a gauge swatch and adjust your hook and/or yarn as necessary to meet gauge. If you need help understand the process, I have a tutorial on my website. Click HERE to check it out!
I am new to crocheting. I don’t understand what working in the third loop means. Could someone explain?
Thanks!
It is the loop that is in the back, directly below the back loop of a stitch. I’m sure there are many tutorials that can show you, but here is one I like from Moogly. https://www.mooglyblog.com/third-loop-half-double-crochet/
I am finished with row 7, and it still isn’t curving down to form the sides of the hat. It is flat and just keeps getting bigger. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
I’m not sure which size you are working, but I would suggest checking your stitch count. If your counts are correct, then the shaping should happen as you go further in the hat.
Do you have a video for the flower? I’m so confused….LOL
I’m sorry you are confused, I don’t have a video but perhaps I can help you if you can tell me where you are getting stuck or send me some photos. Please email me at [email protected]
I found it refreshing to work a pattern that was written by someone who knows how to write a pattern. I found 2 patterns earlier today that were poorly articulated and could not be followed. I have been crocheting for over 20 years, and I thank you!
Thank YOU!
So happy to click on a “free pattern “ that is really there! THANKS!💗
LOL, I’m glad you found what you were looking for. 🙂
oh, so sorry, I should have read ahead. Didn’t see that the next two rounds are worked in the third loop.
I love this pattern and I am just wondering why the photo looks like there are three rows worked in the third loop (the three rows of chains after the shell pattern stops), but in the instructions there is only one round (Round 12 on the size I am making) worked in the third loop. thank you
Rows 13_16 worked in 3rd loop in the adult size pattern I followed above
Thank you 🙂
