Set your table in holiday style with these pretty napkin rings!
Recently I went looking for new holiday table linens and suffered sticker shock! Why are cloth napkins $6 and more a piece? It’s only a 20″ square of fabric! But the biggest shock was napkin rings. I saw a set that I really liked because they had texture, looked handmade, were golden in color for the season and were not too ornate, BUT, they were $8 a piece and I needed a dozen. No way am I spending over $100 for napkin rings!
My creative side kicked into full gear and I stopped at my favorite local craft store. I found this golden metallic cord that is often used to wrap gifts. Each package had 27 yards and cost $2.99. I bought two, had a 40% coupon so I spent a total of about $4 with tax and made all 12 napkin rings! The metallic nature of the cord coupled with the single crochet stitch choice give the rings a firm finished structured without any flop. Of course, the cord comes in many different colors and I’m sure you could use other types as well, to match your decor and theme. So give it a try, they work up in no time and are fun to make too!
I used a US H/ 5.0mm hook. The pattern could not be simpler, it is just two stitches, a chain stitch and a single crochet.
Foundation: Chain 17, join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around, join with slip stitch to first stitch. (17 stitches)
Rounds 2 and 3: Repeat Round 1. Fasten off after last repeat. Weave in ends.
