Liven up your holiday decorating with these quick ornaments.
Do you have people on your Christmas list that are impossible to buy for? You know, the typical teenager, your in-laws, the neighborhood kid that helped you withe some chores and more! Well I find that most people appreciate a gift certificate, or plain old cash? But it seems so impersonal to just put some cash or a gift card in an envelope, right?
These three gift cases are perfect to dress up those “money” gifts and make them special.
You will love how quickly these holders work up with just a few supplies (and you probably have most of them on hand) they are great stash busters too! Add a loop hanger and you have another tree ornament done! Each one of the holders has a slot at the top so you can insert the goodies.
The first two are traditional crochet but for the last one (the gift box) I wanted to try something different so I designed it in Tunisian crochet. Now don’t fret, you don’t need to go out and purchase a Tunisian Crochet Hook, this project is small enough that you can use a regular crochet hook. If you aren’ experienced in Tunisian crochet, don’t worry, there are lots of on line resources to help you. I like the tutorials by Kim Guzman — she is the Tunisian expert! If you just don’t want to try this in Tunisian, no problem, you can easily adapt the pattern for single crochet! Just start off with ch25, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch and follow the pattern for the color changes and number of rows – it’s easy!

Giftbox – Worked in Tunisian Knit Stitch (tks)
Kim Guzman has wonderful tutorials on Tunisian Crochet, this one introduces the Knit Stitch =====> Click here for tutorial
Tunisian Knit Stitch (tks): Insert hook between front and back vertical bars of the same stitch, coming out at back of work, yarn over, pull up loop.
Each Tunisian row has two passes, the first (usually worked from right to left if you are right handed) loads loops on the hook, the second (worked in the reverse direction) closes the stitches. These two passes are noted as “a” and “b” after the Row number in this pattern.
Materials:
• Tunisian Crochet Hook US 8;
• Worsted Weight Yarn in Turquoise and Red
Row 1a: Work first 5 loops in turquoise, the next 2 in red, the remaining 17 in turquoise: ch24, working in back bump, skip first ch, *insert hook in next ch, yarn over, pull loop through*, repeat between *, you will have 24 stitches on hook.
Row 1b: Ch1, [yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook], repeat across until you have 1 loop left on hook, this will count as the first st of next row here and throughout.
Note, from here forward work stitches with the same color of the row before unless otherwise noted.
Row 2a: Skip first vertical bar, tks across,
Row 2b: Close as in Row 1b
Rows 3 to 8: Repeat Row 2a and 2b, change color to red.
Rows 9 and 10: Repeat Row 2a and 2b, change color to turquoise.
Rows 11 to 18: Repeat Row 2a and 2b. Fasten off after last repeat.
Finishing: With right sides together, sew side seam closed matching up the rows, sew the opening at the bottom closed.
For the bow, chain 40, tie into a bow and sew in place on the box.
