Enjoy this month’s X Stitch Challenge crochet pattern
Hugs & Kisses Cowl
In honor of Valentine’s Day, I designed this one with a treble stitch X worked with a larger hook for a looser stitch. The combination, creates a row of Xs with Os between, hence the name Hugs & Kisses!

I used a very luxurious alpaca I had, in my stash, in variegated shades of red and pink, and designed the cowl to use only 1 skein (120 yards). This is one of those yarns you see and love and must have, but then gasp when you see the price tag, so, you buy just one skein.
This cowl looks great worn in the traditional way, but I like it with a fancy brooch too. You can twist it around and secure it on the side so that it frames your neckline, or try pleating it at the bottom and placing the brooch to hold the pleats closed.
However you choose to wear it, I hope you enjoy making this quick project and will share your finished pictures on my Facebook page and the SHOW IT OFF link party.

Hi, love this pattern and know exactly who I would like to make it for Christmas…I was wondering if you could possibly suggest a particular yarn that could be used for this pattern….since $$ is short, don’t think I could buy the one you used…but if you could help me find something nice to make it with I would sure appreciate it..Thanks so much
Hi Jeanne, You can really use any DK weight yarn you like. Here are a couple of my favorite places to buy yarns:
Webs Yarns – I’ve linked to a page with a sort of DK, under $5 -there are several to choose from here.
I also like Knit Picks yarn and again I’ve given you a link to their DK yarns.
If you prefer local craft stores such as AC Mooar, or Michaels, these are some nice options:
Red Heart Yarns
Lion Brand Yarns
I hope this helps you to make a selection 🙂
Thank you so much for your suggestions…I will try and post finished iten.
I so appreciate your patterns, and I’ve completed several projects with your inspiration and tutelage. But I must tell you that whether it is because of your gorgeous photography or just your skill as a crochet artist, my results never equal yours. They are pretty, certainly, but when people admire them, I show them your photos, and they nod as if to say, Yes, hers are much lovelier. So although I have made some lovely items with your help, the teacher is still the master!! But that’s why I love your patterns!
LOL, thanks Judy for your kind words. I’m sure your items are lovely and I’d love it if you would share your pictures — feel free to post them to my FB page or link them to our weekly link parties.
love this pattern. but where can you find that broach or button you have on it? i love that. thanks.
Thank you Tammy. Well the brooch is one that was given to me many years ago and has sentimental value so I don’t think you’ll find the exact same one, however, if you look i antique or thrift shops I’m sure you will find some lovely treasures. 🙂
Your pattern looks very soft and comfy. I really want to make one.
Thank you Wynona, yes, this yarn is really yummy! Pick a lovely yarn and you will feel luscious with it wrapped around your neck!
hehehe hit the print friendly tag and gave me a squash soup recipe. Tried several times and always get the soup
I have no idea why Linda, I just tried it and get the pattern. Hopefully you like squash soup! he he he
Beautiful! I love to learn new stitches! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks. I have some yarn that has been wanting a pattern like this.
