~ Don’t lose it, add It To Your Ravelry Queue Or Favorites ~
In early February I released the Chameleon Hat – Valentine’s Love and Olympic Spirit and announced that I’d be taking that same basic hat and modifying it each month for holiday and seasonality.  March brings a Pot o’ Gold applique for a little Irish luck.
This cute little pot complete with rainbow and shamrock, is great to add to all kinds of handmade items for a little holiday flair.Â
Of course, the hat is great on it’s own or with just a couple of shamrocks too. The whole point is to make it your own and customize to your liking 🙂

Pot ‘o Gold Rainbow – use Hook US G (4.00 mm)

- tr – treble stitch
- sc2tog – single crochet two stitches together
You will need 2 yards each of: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet; 10 yards of Black; 5 yards of White.
Â

Shamrock:
Make a magic circle, ch1, 7 hdc in loop, pull loop tight, join with sl st in top of beg hdc. * [Ch2, 2tr, dc, 2tr, ch2, sl st] in same st, skip next st, sl st in next st*. Repeat between *2 more times; ch6, sc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in each remaining st, join with sl st to bottom of shamrock. Fasten off leaving a long tail to attach to rainbow.
Pot of Gold:
Row 1: With black, ch12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch. (11 sc)
Row 2: Turn, skip first sc, sc in next 9 sts, leave last st unworked. (9 sc)
Row 3: Ch1, turn, sc in first st, 2sc in next st, sc in each st to last 2 sts, 2sc in next st, sc in last st. (11 sc)
Row 4: Repeat Row 3. (13 sc)
Row 5: Ch1, turn, skip first st, sc in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog. (11 sc)
Rows 6 & 7: Repeat Row 5 two more times. (7 sc)
Border: Turn, ch1, sc in each st around pot working an extra sc in corners of top to get a nice turn. Fasten off.
Optional: For more definition around pot top, with a yarn needle and yarn, sew a row of straight stitches in the gap between Row 1 and Row 2. This will define the lip of the pot.
Gold: Working in back loops only, join Yellow in first st of top of the pot, [ch2, sl st in next st] repeat to end. Fasten off.
Assembly:
Using a yarn needle and long tails of yarn, arrange pot over bottom end of rainbow and tack in place. Place shamrock at top end of rainbow and tack in place. Sew Pot ‘o Gold applique to hat.

I will make this for my children this tomorrow. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome.
Last year I started crocheting hats for Kids with Cancer in Australia. It’s so good to find fun patterns for them. So appreciate all your patterns. THANK YOU
Thank you so much! 🙂
I wanted to Thank-you for the free hat design. I make hats for children with cancer and I like to send them something that is fun instead of just a toboggan. They are so young that they need to laugh all they can and be different.
Oh Cathy, thank you so much for sharing that. I’m so happy you like my hat. I’ll be changing this one up each month throughout the year, so hopefully you will find many different versions to put smiles on their little faces 🙂
Thank you so much for this beautiful pattern, I have made this and posted on Ravelry, it will be going into a raffle along with a crochet book, wool and a hook for a Charity night. When a great pattern comes along, you just gotta try it, lol!! Thanks again xxx
