One of the joys of the holidays is the look of joy on a loved one’s face as they open a much wished for gift. Gift giving is one of the oldest symbolic expressions of love and care.
So many of us spend a lot of time finding that perfect gift but don’t give nearly as much thought to the packaging. Who amongst us doesn’t enjoy a beautifully wrapped package under the tree? Beautiful packages don’t have to be expensive or difficult. This year, follow these easy suggestions to make your gift wrap as unique and as memorable as the gift itself!
1. Â While shiny and printed papers are beautiful, plain brown paper can be a wonderful backdrop for stamps, bows or other beautiful embellishments.
2. Â You don’t have to buy wrapping paper. Â Old maps, music sheets and even newspapers will make an interesting and personal gift wrap, just be sure to add a spectacular bow or ribbon!
3. Â Fabrics offer endless options, how about a textured burlap with a bright ribbon, or a dishtowel to wrap a bottle of wine, or even a scarf that can be worn once the gift is opened?
4. Â Sometimes it is the packaging itself that stops the show. Â Seasonal baskets and bows, vintage boxes and tins oreven every day practical items like oven mitts offer unique options.
5. Â The garnish on a dessert makes it really special and so does the embellishment on the gift. You can use candies to sweeten up simple boxes and wrapping.
6. Â Don’t overlook free options found in nature, such as berries, branches, pinecones and greenery.
7. Â And of course, every gift needs a name tag. Â Crochet borders on simple paper shapes are simple but elegant, personalized cookies offer an extra treat or decorated clay and wooden shapes double as tree ornaments for next year.
Have fun, experiment and most of all keep it personal. Â Happy gift giving!
