This week’s free crochet pattern is the
Braided Christmas Wreath
Thanks to our wonderful sponsor, Red Heart Yarns, for providing the yarn for this project: Red Heart Strata and Red Heart Super Saver. The strata is a jersey knit, bulky weight that comes in a nice array of colors and was a joy to work with. I love how easily it slid through my hands as I worked to provide for smooth, even stitches and it has remarkable stitch definition too. The Super Saver is an old time favorite with consistent results and a wide range of colors for almost any project!

Pattern Instructions
Base – Use Hook US I/5.50 mm
Round 1: With Red Strata, ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and each remaining ch, sl st to first sc to form circle. From here forward you will work in a spiral, sc in each st until the ball of yarn is done. Fasten off.
I have a video tutorial on my You Tube Chanel to help you with making the tube ==> http://bit.ly/2bG2NN9
Repeat with White and Teal Strata.
You will have three long tubes. Join the three tubes at the top, lay them on a flat surface and braid evenly. Bring ends together to form a ring and sew in place securely.
Flowers– Use Hook US H/5.00 mm
Each flower is made of two sections of 5 petals, one small and one large, tacked together.
Make two red and one white of each section.
Small Flower Petals – make 2 red and 1 white:
Round 1: Ch5, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring, *ch7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and next 5 ch, sl st to next ch in ring*, repeat between * 4 more times. (5 spokes)
Round 2: Turn to work from the “wrong” side, working along the chs and sl sts of the previous round, *sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, [sc, ch2, sc] in last ch; working down other side of spoke, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st into ring *; repeat between * around, join to first sc. Fasten off. (5 petals)
Large Flower Petals – make 2 red and 1 white:
Round 1: Ch5, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring, *ch10, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and next 8 ch, sl st to next ch in ring*, repeat between * 4 more times. (5 spokes)
Round 2: Turn to work from the “wrong” side, working along the chs and sl sts of the previous round, *sc, hdc next 2, dc next 3, hdc, sc, [sc, ch2, sc] in last ch; working down other side of spoke, sc, hdc, dc next 3, hdc next 2, sc, sl st into ring *; repeat between * around, join to first sc. Fasten off. (5 petals)
Flower Centers – make 1 per flower:
With gold, ch4, join with sl st to first ch, ch1, [sc, ch5] 12 times in center ring, join to first sc. Fasten off.
Leaves – make 8 or as many as you like:
Make as many as you like.
Ch17, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 ch, *sc, hdc, dc next 2, tr next 3, dc next 2, hdc, sc,* [sc, ch2, sc] in last ch; working down other side of ch, repeat between*. Fasten off.
Flower Assembly
If desired, slide pieces of wire along “veins” of each petal to allow them to be bent into shape. Place small petal section on top of large petal section with petals offsetting and place yellow centers on top of small petal section. Sew in place through all thicknesses.
Sew or glue beads to center of each flower. Sew flowers in place on wreath to cover join. Add leaves between flowers and sew in place.
Trace the wreath onto the cardboard and cut a ring ½” smaller around the outside and inside. Cover the cardboard with the felt or decorative fabric and glue in place. Place back of wreath on the wrong side of the cardboard ring, glue in place. This will give the wreath structure and prevent it from sagging as it hangs.
Use a wreath hanger or add a ribbon or piece of yarn to the back of the wreath to form a hanger and you are ready to put it on your door!

Ellen Morey says
Approximately how long should the three tubes be? I’m using different yarn then the suggested because I couldn’t fine Strata.
PatternParadise says
They are approximately 36″ long.
