Heart Pillow
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, my mind has been wandering to hearts, hugs and love. At the same time I was introduced to a new yarn by Red Heart called Sweet Home. This is a chenille based yarn perfect for home decor and when I browsed the available colors, I almost squealed with delight to find the Berry Bliss! Berry Bliss had all the colors I envisioned wrapped into one big, beautiful ball!

My design idea was a big, cushy, soft and huggable heart that would work perfectly as a floor cushion or for two love birds to share while cozying up on the couch and watching a favorite movie.
The pillow came together quickly with the large scale yarn and a chunky hook and it was a pleasure to work through. I made two identical heart shapes and then joined them and stuffed them with PolyFill for my pillow, but as I finished the first half it occurred to me that it would make a wonderful mat and so I plan on making another real soon.
This heart is started from the center, very similar to the sole of a slipper that is worked on both sides of the beginning chain. The shaping is formed with a few increases at the bottom point and arches and decreases at the top. Since the yarn is so rich already, I chose a simple half double crochet for the main part of the heart and the two pieces are joined with a simple single crochet.
