Halloween Graph Headband
Halloween is just around the corner so I think it’s time for a spooky headband for all the little (and big) goblins! This is a very basic headband but it does use a graph and post stitches to achieve the look. Don’t fret, it’s easy if you take it step by step and I have a tutorial to help you read the graph if it’s your first time (or you want a refresher).

The pattern includes two easy graphs one for a spooky (well not so spooky) bat and one for “Boo!”. The sizing ranges from toddler to Adult.

Skill Level: Easy
Size: Toddler, Child, Adult Small, Adult Medium/Large
Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn, such as Red Heart Soft:
- Main Color:
- Toddler/Child ~ 110 – 120 yards
- Adult ~ 140 – 150 yards
- Contrasting Color:
- Toddler/Child ~ 20 yards
- Adult ~ 30 yards
Gauge: 14 hdc x 14 rows = approximately 4”
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
FP = front post
RS = right side
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
WS = wrong side
To work a FPhdc – Yarn over, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post of next st, yarn over and draw yarn through, yarn over and complete as a regular half double crochet.

Special Instructions:
- Pattern written in US Standard terms
- Weave ends as you work.
- Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of the round.
- Chains at the beginning of the round do not count as a stitch.
- Join each round with slip stitch to first stitch.
Pattern Instructions
- Work graph design in contrasting color; for color changes, work complete stitch in old color, pull in new color, pull tail of old color tightly.
- You may have bobbins of different colors for each section, but since this design is rather small, I simply fasten off at each color change and weave ends.
Toddler – Fits 17” – 19” / Child – Fits 19”- 21”
Pattern written for toddler with child in ( ).
Round 1 (RS): Using a 5.50mm hook, ch64 (70), switch to 5.0mm hook, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch. Join with sl st to the 1st st. (63, 69 sts throughout)
Round 2: Ch2, FPhdc around each st to start of graph, work Row 1 of the graph, FPhdc around each remaining st to end, join.
Start Following Graph at stitch number:
Bat | Boo! | |
Child | 21 | 24 |
Toddler | 23 | 26 |
Rounds 3 – 8: Repeat Round 2, completing Rows 2 – 7 of the graph.
Round 9: Sc in each st around.
Round 10 (WS): From WS work a round of Crab Stitch or Twisted SC. Fasten off.
Bottom Edge (WS): Working from WS, join yarn with a sl st in a st near the last st of Round 1 of the headband, work a round of Crab Stitch or Twisted SC. Fasten off.

Adult Small: Fits 21” – 22” / Adult Medium- Large: Fits 23” – 24”
Pattern written for small with medium- large in ( ).
Round 1 (RS): Using a 5.50mm hook, ch78 (84), switch to 5.0mm hook, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch. Join with sl st to the 1st st. (77, 83 sts throughout)
Round 2: Ch2, FPhdc around each st to start of graph, work Row 1 of the graph, FPhdc around each remaining st to end, join.
Start Following Graph at stitch number:

Rounds 3 – 10: Repeat Round 2, completing Rows 2 – 9 of the graph.
Rounds 11: Sc in each st around.
Round 12 (WS): From WS work a round of Crab Stitch or Twisted SC. Fasten off.
Bottom Edge (WS): Working from WS, join yarn with a sl st in a st near the last st of Round 1 of the headband, work a round of Crab Stitch or Twisted SC. Fasten off.
