The Pretty In Pink Pillow is a study in texture! As many of you know, I’m a fan of textured crochet and recently came into possession of a wonderful book full of textures created with post stitches. The book is published by Leisure Arts and is named 99 Crochet Post Stitches by Darla Sims. I couldn’t wait to try some of the featured stitch combinations from this lovely book! You can see my book review and a giveaway HERE.

I chose two and decided they’d be perfect for a reversible throw pillow. The lighter pink is a simple yet elegant hourglass cable. This cable design would be perfect for so many different projects, but I have my thoughts toward a bulky sweater ;). The darker pink side is named chisel stitch and is a nice variation on a basketweave stitch. I love how this pillow turned out and can’t wait to try more stitch patterns from this book.
I made this beauty with Red Heart Soft Essentials.

Pattern Instructions
I made this pillow with two different stitches, one on either side and then joined the two pieces to make it reversible – one look on the front, another on the back. I filled the pillow with a pre-made 12” poly fill pillow form. I made my pillow joined on all 4 sides, but you could add buttons or a zipper to one edge if you prefer, for laundering ease.
Changing size: I made the pillow 12” square but the sizing is easy to change. Adjust the beginning chain using the stitch multiple for a wider or narrower piece and adjust the row repeat for the length. Row repeats are written in Red for easy identification.
Side 1 – Chisel Stitch – work in Color 1

Join:
Put two sides together, with wrong sides facing, match stitches (I find it easier to use stitch markers to join the corners together and), with yarn color to match the side that is facing you, join two pieces together in any corner, working through both thicknesses, sl st around 3 sides of the pillow. Slip pillow form inside, continue to sl st closed to end. Fasten off.

I have 31 stitches in the first row counting the first skipped 3 as a stitch. When I get to the end of the second row I end up with 5 chains left which is one extra. What am I doing wrong? It also looks uneven because the first fpdc is in the second stitch yet at the end there is 5 stitches at the end. I consider myself an intermediate crocheter but I just can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Help! I love this pattern so I want to figure this out!

Without seeing your work, I’m not sure where the problem might be, but perhaps you are working the first stitch of Row 2 in the same stitch as the ch3? If so, that would give you an extra chain. Row 2 works out as follows:
Ch3 (counts as dc here and throughout), = 1
turn, FPdc around next dc, = 1
[dc next 3 dc, FPdc around next dc], repeat to last dc, – this ends up being 7 repeats of 4 stitches = 28
dc in last dc. = 1
Total count from above is (1 + 1 + 28 + 1 = 31) stitches used from Row 1
Hope that helps 🙂
