How Did Fringe Originate?
Fringe originated as an alternative way to prevent a woven fabric from unraveling, when a finished hem was not used. Several strands of threads would be removed, and the remaining threads would be twisted or braided together to prevent unraveling. In today’s fashions, fringe is more commonly made separately and added on at the end to achieve a desired look.

What Can You Add It to?
Well, here it is a matter of personal preference and imagination. Fringe is perfect on all kinds of garments like skirts, vest and jacket (remember the 60’s and 70’s) but most often you’ll find it on scarves, ponchos and shawls.
