I always feel like sprucing up my house in the Spring, so why not start with a Basic Throw Pillow. This throw pillow is so easy and goes so quickly in the bulky yarn that you will want to make several! I closed mine on all 4 sides, but you could leave one side open and add a couple of tabs with buttons if you wanted them to be easily removable for the seasons!
This pattern isn’t really a formal pattern, it’s more of a recipe for a Basic Throw Pillow. You could really use this with any yarn you choose and make it any size you like by following the simple instructions. The entire pillow is done in basic half double crochet, with a single crochet border so it’s perfect even for beginners!
I used Bernat Blanket yarn and a large hook to make these and I combined solid colors with a variegated colorway. The blanket yarn does all the work and I love the contrast of the pillows when they are together – same but not “matchy, matchy”!

In attempt to re-purpose (and save a trip to the craft store) I used old throw pillows as the filling. After washing and drying them, I simply crocheted two crocheted squares in the super bulky yarn and then joined them together over the old pillow with a simple single crochet around to join. Â It’s an easy way to finish them off and I like the edged effect too. However, if you prefer pillow covers, you could leave one side open, add short tabs on one open side and buttons to the other side. This way you can easily change them up for washing or the season!

In your basic throw pillow pattern…what colors did you use and is it one strand of yarn to get those colors? I know it is Super Bulky Blanket Yarn but what color combinations?? I didn’t seem to see the blend of white or off white and beige?? I need mine to be exactly like yours. I’ll go look at yarn again to see if I can figure it out? Thank you.

I’m sorry, I made this quite a while ago and unfortunately did not keep the actual colorway names. I’m sure there is something similar on the website. I used three colors in my different combinations. A solid “white”, A solid “beige” and a variegated one that had all the mixed colors. I used one strand of each. I hope that helps a little 🙂
