Who likes surprises? A couple of weeks ago there was a surprise package in my mailbox that made me squeal with delight. I opened it up to find a beautiful set of hooks from Laurel Hill for me to try out.Â
About The Company
Laurel Hill is a family owned and operated company (I love small businesses) run by the Father and Son team of Rick and Danny Brown. Rick started the company almost 20 years ago in Eugene, Oregon. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Rick’s long history in product sourcing and factory production led him to develop Laurel Hill’s original line of handmade crochet hooks in 2000. Since then, Laurel Hill has grown – and now carries more than 400 individual products from the world’s top fiber arts manufacturers.
Today Rick co-operates the company with his son, Danny. Danny has worked as a management consultant, and recently returned from the corporate world to work alongside his Dad and grow family business. The two love working together, as a way for them to constantly stay in contact. They share a love of basketball, small business, and the natural beauty of the Oregon coast.

About The Hooks
The hooks were safely enclosed in a beautifully handmade, silky fabric case providing an elegant backdrop for the gorgeous wood of each handcrafted hook. My case is a trifold, in a beautiful shade of pink, offset with chartreuse accents. The case ties closed with a pretty bow to keep the contents safe; inside, there is an individual slot for each hook with a flap that lays on top of the tips for safekeeping.
There are 11 hooks, ranging in size from a D to M in a variety of different woods! These hooks are beautiful to be sure, but I wondered, how do they work? So I did some swatching and I’m happy to report, they work as beautifully as they look!
My favorite features — they are:
- sleek and elegant looking.
- made from reclaimed, sustainable hardwoods, so they are eco friendly.
- lightweight and sturdy.
- hand-polished to a beautiful, lustrous finish allowing them to glide effortlessly through your yarn, so your motions are effortless and quick.
- have a flat, slightly bigger thumb-rest that makes holding the hook very comfortable and puts less strain on the fingers and hand, allowing for longer crochet sessions!
- have a pointed top that makes it easy to find a stitch and avoids splitting yarn fibers.
- reasonably priced!
I hope you’ll visit Laurel Hill’s website and take a look at all of their lovely products, and I hope you’ll give their hooks a try — I think you’ll be pleased with your choice!
