Welcome to Week 7!
This week we will be working the Biscotti Scarf. Most of our projects thus far have been decorative, so I thought it was time for an accessory that would work for yourself or as a gift.
This scarf is worked side to side in a combination of both lace and solid stitches. The combination, in conjunction with the soft transition of colors in the yarn, develop interest and result in a very elegant scarf indeed! I added fringe, because I felt it added a romantic look, but of course you can leave it off or add another trim if you wish.
I love that this scarf can be styled in several different ways with a different flare for each look.
I struggled with a name for this scarf, however, when I showed it to a friend, he immediately stated “it looks like a golden piece of biscotti” and so the name stuck!

Thank you to our sponsor Red Heart Yarns, for providing the yarn for this project. I used Red Heart It’s A Wrap Rainbow for my sample. I loved the long color transitions this yarn made and I think it works perfectly with the different stitch combinations.

Edges and Fringe
Row 1: Join yarn at corner to work across short end, ch1, sc in same st, sc evenly across being sure to have an odd number of stitches.
Row 2: Ch1, turn, sc in first st, [ch3, skip 1, sc in next st], repeat to end. Fasten off.
Repeat for other side being sure to have same number of stitches in Row 1.
To add the fringe
- Cut 20” long strands of yarn, or double the length you want your finished fringe to measure. I used three lengths of yarn for each fringe but you can make it as thick or thin as you like.
- Take three lengths of the yarn together and fold them in half.
- Insert the folded side in one of the loops created by the ch3 in Row 2.
- Pull the cut ends through the loop side and pull tightly.
- Repeat fringe in each loop. When all fringe has been added, smooth all ends and cut across evenly.

I’m not sure how to do the dc5tog stitch. Can you explain?
PatternParadise says
Yarn over (YO) and insert the hook in the stitch, YO and pull through two loops so that two remain on the hook, *YO insert hook in same st, YOU pull through two loops*, repeat between * 3 times, you should have 6 loops on the hook at this point. YO and pull through all the loops at once.
Angela says
Help! I am new-ish to reading patterns and understanding yarns. I purchased the yarn you used (in 3 different. Plots). as it unwinds, there are 4 thin “strands” together. Do I use all 4 or do I need to separate them?
Thank you!!!
PatternParadise says
Hi there. You use all the strands together as they come out, that’s what creates the nice color changes.
Sharon Keliinoi says
Hello, I love the Biscotti pattern. I’m having a problem on row 11. I don’t come out with 301 I am short by 3 stitches. I’ve counted the previous row and it was 301. What am I doing wrong?
I did purchase this pattern.
Thank you,
Sharon

I’m sorry you are having trouble. It’s difficult to say what might be causing you to be off without seeing what you are doing, however, if you had the correct stitch count of 301 in the previous two rows, then Row 11 should work up easily with one hdc in each stitch. Perhaps you missed a stitch in either Row 9 or Row 10?
Katy says
I’ve been working on this for a few days now and noticed that there is a “wave” to my first rows. I’m only 6 rows in with the shell stitches, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t correct. I’ve counted everything as well and my counts are right. Any idea what’s going on here?
PatternParadise says
I’m not sure. There is a slight wave until some of the other stitches come into balance it all, but it should not be very pronounced. If your counts are correct it could be that your tension in the first row was a bit too tight and it’s pulling in. One way to avoid this is to make the beginning chain in a larger hook or to make foundation single crochet for the first row.
Britt Hodson says
Hi this scarf is drop dead gorgeous, i have a question, would it make a big difference to use a #2 or #3 weight yarn
PatternParadise says
Depending upon the yarn, it may effect the drape and the size would also be different. You could play with different yarn weights and hook sizes to achieve the look you want. Sine it isn’t a garment, the gauge is not as important.
Cindi says
could you tell me what yarn was used for the fringe?
PatternParadise says
The same yarn as for the scarf.
Donna says
Ok, I have the pattern and bought redheart its a wrap yarn in foggy. My skein starts with cream in the center and ends with charcoal on the outside. It looks like you started with charcoal and ended with cream. If this is so I will have to start on the outside of my skein. Did you start with charcoal or cream? Thanks for any help you can give me.
PatternParadise says
No I started with the cream 🙂
