How to Make A Sturdy, Neat, Non-Curl Crocheted Edge
This crocheted edge is perfect for so many different applications. I have found that with some yarn and stitch combinations, the edges of the fabric tend to roll up — not pretty! This technique is easy and fast to add to any project. I use it for the front edge of open cardigan bands, bottoms of sweaters and even hat bands. It’s so simple and can be added to any stitch. The edge will add a little thickness and somewhat rounded edge to your projects, but is otherwise unnoticeable, so it won’t change the look of the design.
What’s the technique? Well, when you finish your last round or row of your pattern, turn to work from the wrong side of your project. Do not make a starting chain, loosely work a round or row of slip stitch in each stitch. This finish will prohibit some of the normal stretch and give of crochet stitches, so you may want to go up a hook size to prevent it from pulling too much.
