Do you love the social aspects of a crochet along (CAL)? Do you want to crochet a shawl but are somewhat intimidated to give it a try? Do you like to learn new stitch combinations and techniques? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this CAL is for you!
Read the CAL details below and join me in the Pattern Paradise Crochet Community Facebook group for some CAL Fun!!
This CAL is now completed and the pattern is available on my website in three parts:
Part 1: Shawl Base
Part 2: Lace Section
Part 3: Bottom Border & Top Edge
About the Autumn Jewels Wrap….
The CAL: This is a FREE CAL and the pattern will be released on my website over a three week period (see schedule below). Can’t wait three weeks to complete it? No problem, I’ll also have an ad-free PDF available in my Ravelry shop for a small fee, starting on 7/22/2018. The PDF also includes crochet charts for those who prefer them to the written instructions.
This is the second time I’ve teamed up with Katy from KT & The Squid to bring you a CAL project with custom dyed yarn. You can see our first project, the Spring Showers Shawl, HERE.
Tag your projects with #AUTUMNJEWELS on social media!
The Yarn: Now let’s talk about the yarn! Katy custom dyed this yarn in three beautiful, riche jewel toned colorways for Pattern Paradise and this pattern, and the yarn is exquisite! It is called Squid Singles and is a 100% superwash merino that comes in 100 gram balls (approximately 437 yards/399 meters). You’ll find this yarn is a super soft, dainty fingering/sock weight. It feels slinky on the skin and has wonderful drape. The base that Katy uses is worsted spun which means it is durable and less likely to pill and makes the yarn more breathable even in warmer climates. You can feel good about this yarn for another reason too; Katy sources all of her yarn products from farms that are cruelty free.
Get Your Yarn Today!
While supplies last, Katy will offer all three colors in her ETSY shop with FREE shipping (US domestic only) with coupon code AUTUMNJEWELS and if you order by 7/18/2018 you will receive it in time for the Week #1 release, so don’t wait!
The Pattern: I designed this pattern with two hanks of Katy’s lovely yarn. I wanted something with a bit more interest than the traditional pointy shawl or rectangular wrap, so I added a crescent shape. The design is comprised of simple stitches in three sections, the Base, the Lace and the Border. It has a wingspan of approximately 56″ and it’s about 21″ at the deepest point, but of course, it is easy to adjust and I’ve given you some suggestion in the pattern too.
If you are concerned about working with a finer weight yarn, don’t be. This yarn glides through your hook quickly and the lacy sections work up super quick. The design makes this a very versatile piece that you can wear over a fancy dress or jeans and a t-shirt, or try it draped in the front and tied in the back. It could even be worn around your waist as a beach cover up if you like…..
Not convinced a CAL is for you? Here are some things to consider….
- CALs bring a sense of community to our craft.
- CALs are the perfect opportunity to make new friends or catch up with old friends, who share a passion for crochet.
- CALs are a great place to get help when you are stuck or give help to those that may need it.
- I and my admins will be in and out of the group throughout the CAL to help you through any tricky spots and will add tutorials or mini videos if necessary.
- And don’t forget the PRIZES!! Yes we will have weekly prizes too!

You will also need basic supplies such as a tapestry needle for weaving ends, a couple of stitch markers and a small craft scissor to snip yarn ends. Beautiful wrap. It’s listed in the Hop into Springboard event. I wish I could actually add the pattern to my Ravelry library. I don’t have any way to print the pdf. ☹️
PatternParadise says
It’s available on my website for free so you can always refer to it there 🙂

Great!

The pattern looks great – I can hardly wait to begin! 2 questions – if I use a different yarn, how much do I need? And, will the CAL include charts also, or will I only find them on the pdf?
PatternParadise says
Great! I haven’t tested the shawl in a different yarn to be able to calculate the yardage, however, if it is a similar weight, it should be about the same. Yes, the pattern will include crochet charts in the PDF version. The free version on the website will be written form.

Good Day Maria,
I would love to follow along with the CAL, but can not afford to buy the suggested yarn! I love the look of the pattern, and a co-worked gave me yarn that she has decided not to use. My plan is to make something for her with the yarn, and this shawl looks perfect for her.
Is there a problem with not using the yarn you recommend for the CAL?
PatternParadise says
Not at all – you may use whatever yarn you like.
