How to Make Crocheted Cord
This crocheted cord has solved a huge problem in my life! Well, I’m exaggerating of course, however it has solved a crochet problem! I love making crocheted bags and often struggle with what do use for the handles. I’ve made them in single crochet, or purchased leather or chain handles that I add to the final project, but sometimes that’s not exactly what I’m looking for.
This crocheted cord has a braided look and is reversible and sturdy with some built in stretch, but most of all it is pretty! I like using it for purse handles, but add a purchased buckle and it will work well as a belt or use it as a tie cord for cardigan or top… the possibilities are unlimited.
I’ve put together a quick video to show you how it’s done and added a picture tutorial at the bottom too, in case you prefer that 🙂

Row 1: Chain 4 and mark the 2nd stitch to make it easy to identify, hdc in first ch and place another stitch marker in the first 2 loops in the back of the hdc just made.
hdc in first chain, pull your work slightly toward you and place another stitch marker in the first 2 loops in the back of the hdc just made.
Row 2: Ch2, turn, hdc in in first marked chain (2nd chain in your beginning chain 4),
place stitch marker in the first 2 loops in the back of the hdc just made.
Row 3: Ch2, turn, hdc in the two loops in the 2nd stitch marker from your hook.
Repeat Row 3 until strap is desired length.
That’s it! Easy 🙂 Be sure to “Pin” this post for reference!
