The texture in this fun square, comes from the combination of post stitches and back loop crochet. If you don’t like working in back loop only, you could work in both loops as usual, however, the look would change dramatically.
I designed this crochet square using 4 colors in Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn. I like the color options in this yarn and find it pretty easy to coordinate similar or contrasting colors for an eye pleasing finished project. My first square emphasizes color changes while the second is all about the interplay of color. I really love both looks — the solid colored center because it highlights the radiating center post stitches (reminds me of the sun), and the multi colored center because it reflects a bold color statement in addition to texture (reminds me of the sun too 🙂 ). Truly, you could make as many color changes as you like or none at all and I’m sure it would look great.
It might be fun to put a few different squares together for a large afghan or throw, but I think a couple of these joined together would make a lovely throw pillow too. You will notice if you join four together, the corners form a new geometric shape too — so much fun!
