Cozy & Sweet Cardigans for Little Ones!
Here in the northeast where I live, the weather is certainly warming up and we’ve gotten a hint “summer is near”. Still, there are days where a little extra something to keep the little ones warm is welcome. Enter the ever reliable cardigan sweaters! I chose this collection because they are a nice mix including classic fit and styling, highly customizable colors and stripes and a sprinkling of something a little different and funky such as a different hemline or closure option. Have fun exploring this collection of paid and free patterns.Â

Southern Charm by A Crocheted Simplicity
This sweater is one of my all time favorites. I love cables and these are cleverly placed to maximize impact. The one button closure is updated and fashionable and makes for a cute topper for pants, skirts and more! This premium pattern comes in a wide range of sizes from 2 years to size 14!
Shelly Sweater & Booties by Pattern Paradise
What’s sweeter than a baby in a cozy sweet sweater? One with matching booties too! This sweater is perfect for boys or girls and works up quickly in an open work top followed by a classic shell design in the bodice. The buttonholes are clever too doubling as the scalloped edge for the band opening! This premium pattern has coordinating pieces (separate patterns) that work together for a beautiful layette too!
Daydreamer Cardi by Stitches ‘n Scraps
I may be dating myself, but this cute sweater reminds me of the letterman sweaters of a time past. The classic cardigan style with the stripes and little pockets are just too adorable to resist. For those looking for a perfect “boy” sweater this one is it, but it works equally well on a girl – can’t you just imagine it in shades of purple or pink? This free pattern is available in three sizes ranging from newborn to 24 months!
Dylan Cardigan by Sincerely Pam
Well this model has an infectious smile and looks so handsome in his Dylan Cardigan! Classic styling with a handy hood for those colder days, this sweater will be a favorite for as long as it fits! The striping allows for lots of creative versions and the zipper ensures those nasty cold breezes won’t be a problem. This premium pattern is available in sizes 2 to 10.
Angella Cardigan by Crystalized Designs
This sweater offers a wonderful base for experimenting with tweeds and variegated yarns. I love the interesting styling of the rounded hemline too and the longer length is sure to offer some additional protection agains the cold. The premium pattern includes sizes 2 to 12.
Snuggly Raglan Cardigan by Pattern Paradise
Well it’s all in the name! This sweater is snuggly, soft and cushy too! Great for boys or girls with a flattering raglan sleeve and buttonhole band that allows for as many buttons as you like. Add some cute buttons or a zipper and you are set! It’s worked in bulky yarn so it’s a fast crochet too. The smallest size is available for free on the blog or buy the ad-free PDF that includes the full range of sizing from newborn to 5 years.
Child Striped Hoodie by Cre8tion Crochet
Here’s another adorable hoodie with basic stitches perfect even for beginners. The wide stripes give you lots of customization flexibility too and the buttons are functional and pretty. This premium pattern is great for the guys or gals and available in sizes from 2 to 12 years.
Cati’s Cardi by AG Handmades
This little top could doesn’t have the sleeves of a traditional cardigan but I included it because I think it is just lovely with the cable look stitching. You could easily add sleeves if you chose, but I think it is is perfect as is. The free pattern is available in size 2 – 3 years.
Color Block Cardi by Kim Guzman
This color blocked cardi is so much fun in three coordinating colors. I just love patterns that allow for easy changes and customization and this one is it. You can make this in any color combination you like or make it all solid too! It sports a nice textured look too and is super stylish. This free pattern is available in sizes 6 to 24 months.
Eloise Baby Sweater by Moogly
There’s so much to love about this sweater. The square neckline, the asymmetric front closure and even the A line styling, but my favorite thing is the way the colors peek out from between the grey sections. It reminds me of jewels peeking out when you open a jewelry box. The free pattern is available in sizes from newborn to 3T.
