Mandalas are popular in the crochet world but do you know their origin? They are defined as a geometric figure representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. They are considered by some to be a tool for gaining wisdom and compassion and rumored to have healing properties. Whatever the mystical meanings, I just find them beautiful to look at and fun to work.
I’m fascinated by the interplay of stitches and colors that create a magnificent design. They are a great way to practice different stitches and color combinations without investing in a huge project and they can be used for everything from doilies to pillow covers, table runners and more!
The mandalas above are beautiful examples from the book Modern Crochet Mandalas (http://amzn.to/2mCEYaC) which includes more than 50 designs by several designers. Each design includes instructions and a crochet chart to guide you through the project. These mandalas are beautiful compositions of color and texture.
