Radiating Dragonflies Throw
Worked in the round, the Radiating Dragonflies Throw pattern features dragonflies radiating out from the center of the blanket. I’ve provided two different edge finishes — one a simple single crochet border with colorful slip stitching to match the colors used in the blanket the other a pretty shell stitch border as pictured above. I really like how it turned out and hope you do too!

Hi,
I’m interested in the patterns you have of the crochet crosses.
My granddaughter has just received her First Holy Communion and I want to send her something special.
I have a crocheted cross that my mother gave to me, but I’m not ready to part with it yet, so thought I would make her one.
Thanks very much.
I saw a few comments about the confusion with the chain 4 which isnt part of the count… I made this using the chain less treble crochet method. Just thought I would mention and share link on how to do chainless treble that way u wont have that extra chain 4…
Chainless Starting Treble Crochet – a Video Tutorial from Moogly!

Looks great thanks for the pattern! I used a verigated yarn worked out great
I’m having trouble with the slip stitch at the start of a new row. Do you have a video for that?
Can you tell me which round number you are referring to?
All of them. You don’t join in the chain but in the first stitch. I don’t understand. Thank you!!!
Ahh yes, the beginning chain does not count as a stitch and will sit behind the stitches. The notes indicate that the beginning chain does not count as a stitch and the stitch count for each round does not include it either. Hope that clarifies.
Hi, I’m making this pattern now and LOVE it. I’m just finished row 7 and it wants to pucker/wave and I have followed to pattern exactly and stitch count is on. I had over half of it done and frogged it all because of the pucker. I thought I had it too tight but I loosened my stitches and it’s still doing it. Any suggestions.
I guess it would depend upon where it is puckering. If it’s around the dragonflies, I’d suggest loosening your stitches there.
I am stuck on row 8. I’m at the end where it says to add 2 DC 1trc and 2dc then add 2 more DC in the same stitch as the beginning stitch. But then when I get to row 9 and get to the end there are too many stitches. I dont know how to fix this.
Hmm, perhaps you added an extra repeat? My suggestion would be to re-check the stitch count on Row 8, then take Row 9 one step at a time. It’s very easy to make an extra repeat as our eyes get used to seeing what they want to see.
Hello, I am currently making this pattern and my count on row 31 is the 496 as pattern says but on row 32 I do not have enough room to do my last skip stitch then 3 dc before the second corner. Have I missed something? Please help I’m trying to get th I finished for my new grand baby due next month. . Thanks!
Hi there, I’m sorry you are having trouble. The instructions are the same from section to section, just with more repeats of the dragonflies added, so if you were getting the correct counts up to this point, my guess is you may have missed an instruction in this last round. I would go back and do the round over, paying careful attention to the repeats, parentheses and *.
Hello,
I am making this, but in a smaller baby weight yarn. So I am wondering, to make this big enough, how could I go about adding more rounds? I’m using #3 yarn (Lion Brand Ice cream big scoop) and a 4.25 mm hook. I’m fairly new to crocheting so not sure if there is an easy way to calculate?
Thanks!
I’ve not tested it in any other yarn, but as noted in the pattern, you can add repeats as follows:
To make the blanket larger, continue repeating Row 12 to 16. Add one additional repeat of the instructions between the parentheses ( ) on each section.
Hope that helps 🙂
Just my opinion: I much prefer the striped edge. It carries the color content of the blanket out through the edge and appears more finished. Since there is no white in the body of the project, the edge seems out of place.
Beautiful and simple! Love your color choices, too. Once again, you’ve selected colors I would never think of putting together and shown how perfect they are together. Thank you for this lovely pattern and for your eye for color..
