Walking in a winter wonderland……..
Here’s a quick free crochet pattern for the holiday season. It’s perfect for a table-scape, centerpiece or put a hanger on it and you have a cute tree ornament too! It is about 6″ tall and while I made both of these in glittery worsted yarn, they would look great in many other yarns too for a fun forest mix.
Materials:
- Worsted Weight yarn, I used Red Heart Super Saver
- Stuffing for tree base
- Hook: US H/5.00 mm
Abbreviations:
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)

Your directions for tree top and first branch do not look the same as the picture shows. Why is picture more pointed and not as fat?
Priscilla Johnston says
I have finished the tree okay, but my top is too fat. Your picture shows it tapered the way a tree should be.
Sgrant says
You cannot get 12 stitches and 6 spaces from previous row of 12 stitches. What’s missing?
Row 4, 5
admin says
It doesn’t say you get 12 stitches and 6 spaces. It says you get 12 stitches which equals 6 chain 1 spaces + 6 hdc.

I love these little trees and want to make some for the gang at work for their desks, but I’m just so confused on how the branches are worked into the trees or are they done separately and then sewn into the trees? I’m just not getting it for some reason lol.
Help?
Thanks
rozz
admin says
Hi Rozz. The branches are worked right into the cone of the tree in the designated rows.
rozz says
Thanks for your prompt response. I had a “duh moment” as soon as I clicked [Post Comment]
I got it! Lol.
Thanks
Chris says
I’m sorry, I still don’t understand how to join the branches into the tree. I don’t see the designated rows?
admin says
The instructions read: Work next branches in hdc of Rounds 5, 8 & 11 on the Base Cone.
Rozz says
@Chris – the rows to attach the branches are the rows where there is a hdc ch1 skip next hdc hdc in next stitch rows.
Ame says
Maria please give an example of the following:
“….remaining Branches: work next branches in hdc of Rounds 5, 8 & 11….”
as row11 can only be found in base cone pattern, not the branch section
What am I missing? Thank you.
admin says
Yes, the branches are worked in the indicated rows of the cone. Sorry if that was confusing 🙁
Rose Fowlkes says
I can’t wait to make this only question is what does it mean work next branches rounds 5 8 and 11?
admin says
Those are the rows where you will repeat the branch instructions.
Caz says

What is a magic circle?
admin says
It’s a common crochet technique used to form a starting circle. You can also make a chain and slip stitch to the first chain to form a loop. If you’d like to see more on the magic circle technique, Moogly has a wonderful tutorial. http://www.mooglyblog.com/?s=magic+circle
