Sometimes I need a break from crochet, so what do I do? I pick up my knitting needles of course!
When I spotted this yarn during my recent visit to WEBS, it made me think of my football loving son, who is always throwing a ball around, his cold red ears threatening frost bite. I decided a bulky beanie was just what this outdoorsman needed, to stay toasty warm while he was having fun. I love the way it turned out and have shared the simple pattern below, in case you’d like to take a break from crochet too!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Football Beanie
Materials:
80 yards super bulky yarn – I used Schachenmayr Lumio in Farbe
Set of 4 double pointed size 13 (9.00 mm) knitting needles, to knit in round
Stitches Used:
k – knit k2tog – knit two stitches together
p – purl p2tog – purl two stitches together
Body of Hat:
Pattern stitch worked throughout: k2, p2
Cast on 48 stitches, and separate evenly on all 4 needles.
Join to work in the round and follow k2, p2 ribbing pattern until hat is 7 1/2″ long.
Decrease for Crown:
Round 1: k2, p2tog around to end
Round 2: k all knit stitches, p all purled stitches
Round 3: k2tog, p around to end
Round 4: Repeat Round 2
Round 5: k2tog around to end. Leave long strand and clip yarn. Using a yarn needle, weave strand through stitches remaining on the needles and pull tight to close hat at crown. Fasten securely and clip yarn.
Weave in loose ends. Enjoy the hat!
