On my way to Cape Cod last month, I detoured through Northampton Massachusetts and paid a visit to my favorite yarn shop, WEBS. Â Here are some of the spoils of my visit.
Now I’ll have you know that I order from this shop regularly and love to browse their online and published catalogs, however there is nothing that prepares you for a visit to the “brick and mortar” shop!
The shop started in a basement in the early seventies. Â It is now located in a 21,000 square foot former telephone company garage. Â It is huge, but not so huge that you feel lost or cold. Â In fact, it is a very warm and welcoming space, with a sitting area at the entrance where you can relax with the many books and magazines on hand, chat a bit or pull out your hook and yarn and start crocheting!
Yarns are organized in various sized shelving units that are grouped into nooks and stations throughout the shop. Each is labeled with the name of the yarn, fiber content, weight, gauge and other pertinent information. Completed projects are displayed at each station to inspire you and challenge your imagination. Â The shop is a visual and tactile feast. Â The customer service is friendly and helpful without being overbearing.
Here is a work in progress from my purchases…stay tuned for more!
