Vista Valley Convertible Cowl
The Vista Valley Convertible Cowl is a quick and easy pattern that features alternating rounds of crossed double crochet stitches and puff stitches to create a whimsical look of x’s and o’s. Named for the yarn, this soft, cozy cowl can easily convert to a warm winter hat. Make it in multiple bright colors for a fun and playful look, or choose a single neutral tone for a more sophisticated style.

Abbreviations: ch = chain, sl = slip, st(s) = stitch(es), sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, MC = main color, AC = accent color
Puff Stitch: [Yarn over, insert hook in stitch and pull up a loop] 3 times, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
Crossed DC Stitch: A photo tutorial can be found here:Â https://pattern-paradise.com/2016/08/09/tutorial-crochet-crossed-dc-stitch/
Special Instructions:
- The pattern is first worked in rows to create the brim, and then worked in joined rounds.
- The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
- The end of each round is joined by slip stitching in the first stitch of the round, not the beginning chain.
- Tassel tutorial: http://jessieathome.com/shortcut-tassels/
- I carried the yarn on the inside of the hat between rounds. I secure the first color by pulling up a long working loop and passing the whole ball of yarn through the loop, then pull to tighten. Always join the new color in the first stitch of the round.
