For me, the summer is all about relaxing, slower days spent with family and friends, vacationing or pursuing hobbies and of course barbecues! So, I got together with a couple of friends and we’ve planned a summer CAL Blog Hop – think of it as a crochet barbecue!
Who: Janaya from Charmed by Ewe, Maria from Pattern Paradise and Wendy from The Hooked Haberdasher
What: A fun summer CAL blog hop, for the Stitch ‘n Style Handbag
When: Each Tuesday starting July 1st through the 22nd and a final reveal on July 29th
Where: On our blogs and Facebook pages too
- Approximately 600 yards of yarn, we used DK weight, but really you can use any yarn you want as long as you adjust the hook size
- A 3.75mm/US F crochet hook
- ½ yard – 1 yard of lining fabric (optional, but we recommend it)
- Iron on interfacing strip (optional, but we recommend it)
- Basic crochet tools such as a yarn needle and scissors
- A good attitude and fun spirit!
How it works:
- Each Tuesday we will give you instructions for one section of the project on our blog. You will have all week to complete that section of the pattern (remember it’s stress free so don’t worry, it will not be overwhelming).
- Each Monday we will open up our Facebook pages at 5pm eastern so everyone can share their work in progress pictures and we can all ooh and aah over them!
- Oh, and did we mention it’s a blog hop? Yes, that means each week one of us will be hosting on our blog and FB page, so you’ll get to visit with each of us!
What you will get out of it:
Well in addition to having fun with some really cool people (we like to kid ourselves into believing we are cool, but our kids don’t really agree) you may learn some new stitches and new techniques and you’ll have a pretty finished project to show your friends and family!
THAT’S IT!! Come have some fun with us and bring a friend!

I have one more question, will light worsted work for this (Caron Simply Soft)? I originally thought dk yarn was needed, so I thought going up to a light worsted wouldn’t change the size too much. But the newest blog post I just saw shows that sport weight yarn is needed. Is this correct? I just don’t want my bag to turn out way too big.

Love this! Wondering if you will be posting a CAL project page on Ravelry or starting a Ravelry group for this? Also, I was wondering what type of yarn you used/suggest for the bag, cotton or acrylic?

Hi Elisa,
We had not planned on doing a Ravelry group for the CAL as we set up an event on FB, but I’ll chat with the co-hosts and see what their thoughts are. As for yarn, some of the samples are cotton and some are acrylic. I believe this bag would look good in almost any yarn 🙂

Sounds great! I’ll keep an eye out to see if you use Ravelry for it as well. 🙂 I have all similar colors to the bottom bag in Caron Simply Soft. So I think I will try using that. Thanks again!
